Team Herald

MARGAO: Don Bosco Oratory Fatorda blanked Chandor Club 2-0 to enter in the quarter-finals of the Curtorim Villagers Cup inter village football tournament, organized by Curtorim Gymkhana and played at St Alex church ground, Curtorim on  Thursday.

DBO Fatorda were clearly a dominating side from the first whistle as they gave no room for their opposition to settle into the game. Velito Miranda handed the Fatord side an early 4th minute lead. The winners dominated the first half and enjoyed better ball possession. Crossing over, Chandor Club did try to make some inroads but they just couldn’t get past the rival defence.

Just when Chandor seemed to find the equaliser after their constant raids, DBO scored their second at the hour mark through Hanslum Furtado. The goal killed hopes of any comeback of Chandor Club.

Host Curtorim Gymkhana defeated St Rock’s Youth Club of Calata Majorda 4-2 (1-1) via the tie-breaker to enter in the quarter-finals on Wednesday.

Welson Fernandes gave an early lead to Curtorim Gymkhana while Stanford D’costa equalised for Majorda side late into the game. Both the teams were tied at 1-1 at the normal time.

In the ensuing tie-breaker, Macwil, Nevil and James Fernandes scored for Curtorim Gymkhana while only Lloyd Dias shoot at the target for St Rock’s YC. Johnson Bhagot saved three sport kicks of majorda.
